My intention with the adults classes is to build a network of fellow actors, provide a motivating practice ground, and share some fantastic acting approaches and tools to achieve truthful naturalistic performances.
Acting classes rarely ever simulate or prepare students for a real set, so a lot of techniques become useless as they haven't been tested and adjusted to the reality of the screen acting environment.
I take a balanced approach, teaching fundamental acting methods & rehearsal techniques for your own preparation and when you have the luxury of rehearsal, but also using quick on-set tools, growing self sufficiency in your acting preparation, and importantly desensitising you to the camera and the audition environment.
My own training is predominantly in the Meisner techniques, but my insights are sourced from various classes, books, podcasts, and real experiences.
Do I need to be an aspiring professional actor?
No!
While the class demands some foundational skills in speaking, memorisation and confidence, we have several non-actors who find huge value in taking part in the class.
What non-actors can learn from acting
Losing self-consciousness
Confidence, public(ish) speaking, using your voice
Being comfortable in front of camera
Listening
Relaxation
Being present
Connection
Creativity
Memory training
The thrill of conquering something that scares you.
