Teaching with an infectious passion for acting and filmmaking.
Hi, I'm Amalia Remus.
I moved to Queenstown from Auckland in 2023, and when looking to connect with the local screen acting community, found a void instead. While this area was becoming one of New Zealand's most exciting filming locations, there was no training ground for local actors.
Amalia Studio grew from that gap, with a small cohort of weekly Screen Teens students and an adults scene group quickly growing this passion project into my full time job. I've built a community from the ground up, discovered the joy of teaching what I myself am so passionate about and am honoured to help people of all ages connect, play, and discover what they're capable of in front of a camera.
Since doing Speech and Drama from the age of 11, acting has been a small and special part of my life, and from University I started diving into creating for the screen and the professional acting industry. While studying film amd performing theatre, I began acting training and gettting on set as an extra. I've since worked on over ten professional TV productions in Auckland, including roles on Shortland Street and Double Parked. I trained for 80 weeks in the Meisner technique under prominent US coach Michael Saccente, hold a Trinity ATCL Diploma in Performing Speech and Drama, and a Bachelor of Arts in Screen Production from the University of Auckland. I also do a lot of self-tape audition coaching, work as a casting assistant and coordinate the Southern Filmmakers Collective.
I'm not a teacher who sits at the sidelines in a director's chair. I'm always learning, and in the thick of it with you: exploring, playing, and encouraging.
